Walnut Creek Cancels Lime Ridge Flow Trail Amid High-Priority Projects

Credit: City of Walnut Creek

Due to a heavy workload from multiple high-priority projects, Walnut Creek city staff have canceled the proposed mountain biking trail for Lime Ridge Open Space. The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission had reviewed the flow trail several times, but city staff have now redirected their efforts to more pressing projects.

According to a city news release on Wednesday, the Public Works department is prioritizing the replacement of the pools and community center at Heather Farm Park, a project that will demand significant time and resources over the next few years. Other ongoing initiatives include enhancements to the Boundary Oak Golf Course, the installation of ballfield lights at Tice Valley Park, and a turf replacement project at Heather Farm Park.

The city noted that Open Space staff would likely assist in mitigating the impact of these major projects and continue to focus on the recommendations set forth by the Trail Committee in 2020.

Discover Eichler’s Vision in This 1955 Walnut Creek Home

In the heart of Walnut Creek's Rancho San Miguel neighborhood lies a stunning example of mid-century modern design: a 1955 original Eichler home at 196 Los Cerros Ave. Joseph Eichler, a visionary developer, revolutionized post-war American suburbs by creating affordable, thoughtfully designed homes that embraced the beloved mid-century aesthetic. His inspiration stemmed from living in a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house after moving to California from New York, fueling his desire to make modernist architecture accessible to the masses.

Eichler's legacy includes over 11,000 homes built across Northern California, many of which still stand today. This particular home is a quintessential Eichler with its classic post-and-beam construction, white wood ceilings, and exposed beams. The airy interior seamlessly merges with floor-to-ceiling glass panels that dominate the rear of the house, flooding the space with natural light. The hallmark concrete tile flooring, a staple in Eichler homes, complements the wooden ceilings, creating a harmonious blend of modernity and warmth.

The home's interior is a testament to Eichler's design philosophy. The kitchen features quartz waterfall countertops, custom wood cabinets with soft-close mechanisms, and high-tech stainless steel appliances, including a gas cooktop and instant hot water. The living room's clean white aesthetic is accented by dark forest green elements, matching the exterior. Recently updated bathrooms boast double sinks and floating toilets, enhancing the mid-century modern vibe.

The outdoor space is a standout feature, highlighted by a newly finished gunite pool. The expansive windows provide a seamless transition to the outdoor entertaining area, which includes garden beds, fruit trees, and a playhouse. This property is a prime example of Eichler's vision, making it a must-see for anyone looking for a home in Walnut Creek.
