Walnut Creek Design Review Commission to Discuss Major Project Extensions and Final Approvals

The Walnut Creek Design Review Commission will meet on June 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chamber at 1666 North Main Street, Walnut Creek. The meeting will include both in-person and written public comments, with detailed participation instructions provided at the end of the agenda.

The agenda includes a welcome and roll call, where any requests for remote participation due to just cause or emergency circumstances will be considered. The consent calendar, which includes routine items expected to be approved without discussion, will feature the adoption of meeting minutes from April 17, 2024. Public communications will follow, allowing for comments on items not listed on the agenda, though the Commission cannot act on these items.

Key public hearings will be held for three major projects. The Shadelands SecureSpace/Calicraft project seeks a two-year extension for its 155,628-square-foot self-storage facility, leasing office, microbrewery, dog park, and community garden. The Residences at Abigail Place project requests a two-year extension for its 17-lot single-family development. Lastly, the Chick-fil-A restaurant project at 2290 Oak Grove Road seeks final design review approval and an amendment to the Citrus Marketplace Master Sign Program.

The meeting will also include a discussion on updates to the design review process and the role of the Design Review Commission, following a recent ordinance adopted by the City Council. The Commission members and staff will provide brief reports and updates on activities before adjourning the meeting.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 3, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Appeal rights and options for participating in the meeting are detailed at the end of the agenda. Public participation options include watching or listening via YouTube Live, cable broadcast, or livestream, and providing comments by mail, email, or in-person at the Council Chamber.
