Joint Effort by Walnut Creek and Concord Police Leads to Arrest of Vehicle Theft Suspect After High-Speed Chase
🚨 Walnut Creek PD and Concord PD collaborate to take a vehicle theft suspect into custody. 🚨
Last night, WCPD's swing shift and graveyard units received a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) from Concord PD regarding a stolen Hyundai traveling on Ygnacio Valley Rd from Oak Grove Rd. WCPD officers located the Hyundai on Ygnacio Valley Rd as it entered the Highway 24 on-ramp heading westbound. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Hyundai, but the driver sped away. A pursuit ensued.
The pursuit continued on Highway 24 to the Caldecott Tunnel, where the driver of the Hyundai lost control and crashed into a bush on the west side of the tunnel. The driver (sole occupant) fled on foot and jumped a nearby chain link fence, but our officers were able to take the next exit and locate him. A short foot pursuit ensued, quickly ending. WCPD officers took the driver into custody and arrested him for possessing a stolen vehicle and evading. He was transported to county jail.
