Walnut Creek Welcomes New Comprehensive Cancer Center by UCSF and John Muir Health

The UCSF-John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center has recently opened its doors on the Walnut Creek campus of John Muir Health. This state-of-the-art outpatient center marks a significant advancement in cancer care, offering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination all in one convenient location for patients in the East Bay area.

In Contra Costa County, statistics reveal that over 135,000 individuals are living with cancer, with around 13,000 new cases reported each year. The center, situated at 177 La Casa Via, aims to provide a soothing and welcoming environment for patients to focus on their recovery. It streamlines the process of receiving healthcare by allowing patients to undergo consultations, testing, and treatments at a single site. The collaboration between UCSF Health and John Muir Health is a testament to their commitment to deliver access to top-tier cancer specialists and the latest in treatment advancements.

Responding to the demographic shift towards an aging population and the consequent rise in cancer incidences, this new facility caters to the increasing demand for comprehensive cancer care and long-term management. The 155,000-square-foot Behring Pavilion and Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center were conceptualized in 2018, with groundbreaking occurring in 2021.

The partnership between UCSF Health and John Muir Health is geared towards improving access to healthcare services for communities in the East Bay, having been in collaboration for nearly a decade. The network specializes in a broad spectrum of cancers and is supported by a multidisciplinary team offering a range of services, including genetic counseling, nutrition advice, and survivorship programs.

Since the opening of its first location in Berkeley in February 2020, the network has expanded to include facilities in Brentwood, Concord, San Ramon, and Vallejo. This initiative underlines the commitment of both organizations to provide exceptional care and broaden patient access to the best possible treatments.
