Walnut Creek Advances Inclusivity with Major DEIB Contract Approval

Walnut Creek is on the brink of endorsing a pivotal contract valued at nearly $200,000 with ReadySet, a consultancy firm, to elevate its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). This initiative, expected to be ratified on Tuesday, aligns with the city's strategic goals for 2023-2024, underscoring a dedication to nurturing an environment where diversity is not just welcomed but celebrated. ReadySet, distinguished for its expertise in fostering inclusive workplaces, will lead this ambitious project.

The scope of work under this contract is extensive, focusing on the audit and improvement of organizational culture, crafting a detailed DEIB program along with a welcoming ordinance, and facilitating continuous training for city employees. The essence of this project is to integrate DEIB values throughout Walnut Creek's community practices, ensuring that these principles are implemented effectively and sustainably.

Chosen from a competitive pool of thirty-three contenders, ReadySet's proposal was lauded for its thoroughness, inclusivity, and strategic approach. The consultancy, notable for its diverse leadership and comprehensive understanding of DEIB challenges, promises to deliver significant advancements in how Walnut Creek addresses diversity and inclusion. Led by local resident Rachel Marcuse and Dr. Char Brown-Griffin, the team is set to make substantial contributions to the city's DEIB efforts.

The city anticipates providing updates on this DEIB venture in September 2024, January 2025, and upon the project's completion, projected to be within 18 months. These updates will detail the initiative's milestones, including survey insights, educational progress, and the development of a lasting DEIB framework. Through this endeavor, Walnut Creek aims to further solidify its reputation as a community deeply committed to diversity and inclusion.

B) A “Hot Now” neon sign

Krispy Kreme is famous for its "Hot Now" neon sign, which lights up to indicate that the doughnuts coming off the line are freshly made. This iconic sign has become a hallmark of the Krispy Kreme experience, enticing customers into the store with the promise of warm, freshly baked doughnuts. The idea behind the sign is to let customers know the best possible time to purchase doughnuts, ensuring they get them at their peak freshness and warmth. This strategy not only enhances the customer experience by providing them with the freshest doughnuts possible but also creates a sense of urgency and excitement about getting Krispy Kreme doughnuts right out of the oven
