Courage and Competition: 'The Great Leap' Premieres at Lesher Center

The Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California, is excited to showcase "The Great Leap," a riveting new drama crafted by Lauren Yee. Under the direction of Nicholas C. Avila, this play is set to captivate audiences from March 16 through April 7, 2024, offering both matinee and evening performances. Critics have showered the production with praise, with the Boston Globe heralding it as "a 'Leap' worth taking!" and the New York Times acclaiming its unique mix of basketball action and poignant historical narrative.

Taking place against the vivid backdrop of a 1989 basketball exhibition in Beijing, "The Great Leap" intricately stitches together themes of cultural and political strife, personal drive, and the competitive spirit that defines us. The narrative centers around an American basketball squad as they thread through the complex weave of international diplomacy and deep-seated personal narratives, leading up to a game that transcends the mere physicality of sports. Blending humor, moving dialogue, and sharp observations on the human spirit, the play delves into the bravery required to voice one's convictions amidst challenging times.

This engaging performance is scheduled to run for approximately two hours and includes an intermission. With a commitment to making live theater universally accessible, Center REP introduces a "Pay What You Can" preview performance on March 16-17, inviting the audience to pay a price that feels right to them, and encouraging those who are able to contribute more to aid in community support.

Take a Break, Parents! Walnut Creek's Special Movie Night for Kids!

The Civic Park Community Center in Walnut Creek, California, is poised to host a captivating evening titled "Movie Night (Parent's Night Out) - Secret Magic Control Agency" on March 15, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Thanks to the efforts of the Specialized Recreation Summer Day Camp Program's trained staff, attendees can anticipate a well-organized evening brimming with fun activities in a safe setting.

The agenda for the night is packed with enchantment and excitement. The festivities kick off with a welcoming period for families to drop off their children between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Additionally, the event will feature a variety of arts, crafts, and games, ensuring a comprehensive entertainment experience for all attendees.

Designed with parents in mind, this event is a perfect opportunity for some well-deserved personal time. Whether it involves shopping, dining out with friends, or a romantic date night, parents can enjoy their evening with the assurance that their children are engaged in a fun-filled program. A message from the owners:

Dear Beloved Walnut Creek Yoga Community,

It is with a heart full of gratitude and mixed emotions that we share the news of the closure of our beloved Walnut Creek studio, effective March 30, 2024. Making this decision was incredibly challenging, as we deeply cherish the dedication and vibrant spirit of our community. However, various factors, primarily the financial challenges of operating in such a large space, have led us to this conclusion.

We want to assure you that all existing class packages will remain valid and can be utilized until March 30, 2024. For those with unused class credits, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected], and we will do our utmost to assist you.

While this closure marks the end of our physical presence in Walnut Creek, the energy and spirit we've cultivated together in this space will forever resonate within us. Your unwavering support and trust have meant the world to us, and we are truly honored that you chose to share your practice with us. Should you have any questions or need further assistance during this transition, please reach out to us. We are here to support you in any way we can.
