Dominat10n Martial Arts Leads Self-Defense Mastery Session at Rotator Taproom
Walnut Creek Community to Experience Unique Self-Defense and Social Gathering at Rotator Taproom
Residents of Walnut Creek are in for a treat with an innovative experience that marries self-defense training with socializing. On March 21st, the local Rotator Taproom is set to host a self-defense workshop from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM PDT, conducted by professionals from Dominat10n Martial Arts. This event is designed to be as instructive as it is enjoyable, offering more than just self-defense lessons.
The one-hour session will see participants learning advanced self-defense techniques, ensuring they leave with valuable tactical knowledge. Following the educational portion, the event encourages social interaction, with a complimentary first drink as a nod to the hard work during the class. The registration fee of $40 opens the door to this dual experience of learning and leisure at the welcoming Rotator Taproom, 1415 Pine Street, Walnut Creek, CA.
Grand Theft Admission Leads to Community Service, Probation for Ex-Fire Chief
A former Contra Costa Fire Protection District battalion chief, Louis Manzo Jr., recently acknowledged his involvement in a grand theft case, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorneyโs Office. Previously overseeing operations in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and Pleasant Hill, Manzo admitted to one count of grand theft following allegations of manipulating payroll records and misusing taxpayer funds. Initially charged in 2019 with 12 felonies, he was accused of fraudulently claiming over $46,000 in salary.
The DA's investigation revealed that from December 2014 to January 2019, Manzo illicitly altered his timecards to claim additional compensation for special assignments and overtime, actions that were unsupported by his actual work attendance, as confirmed by GPS logs of his work vehicle. These manipulations were made to unduly benefit from taxpayer money while preserving his vacation hours and pension benefits.
Upon his retirement in March 2019, the same year the allegations came to light prompting an investigation by the DA's office, Con Fire leadership had already initiated an internal review. The review found that Manzo's fraudulent activities were isolated incidents that did not implicate other employees or affect the district's public services.
In lieu of facing up to nine years in prison, Manzo entered a plea agreement resulting in a 30-day sentence to be served through a work alternative program, a year of probation, 30 hours of community service, and full restitution and fines. Additionally, his county pension will see adjustments, and he is prohibited from contacting Con Fire employees or visiting Fire District properties. The case resolution aims to rectify the financial discrepancies and uphold the integrity of public service institutions.
Dine Out for a Cause: Melo's Restaurants Partner with Cancer Support Community
In an inspiring display of community spirit and generosity, local Italian eateries Melo's Pizza & Pasta and Melo's Italian Table are stepping up to support individuals and families affected by cancer. On Thursday, March 21, all five East Bay locations of the restaurant chain will be donating a part of their day's proceeds to the Cancer Support Community. This noble cause aims to raise funds for the organization's extensive programs, which offer a helping hand to those battling cancer and their support networks. Patrons can contribute to this effort simply by enjoying a meal, either dining in or taking out, at any of the participating venues: Melo's Livermore, Melo's Pleasant Hill, and other locations in Danville and Brentwood. Additionally, the community is encouraged to get involved with the Cancer Support Community's Hope Walk by visiting hopewalkbayarea.net for registration and more information.

The Answer to the Walnut Creek Spotlight Hook Trivia Question ๐๐๐
C) New tennis courts
During the 2011-2012 school year, Las Lomas High School completed the construction of new tennis courts. This upgrade signifies the school's commitment to providing high-quality athletic facilities for its students, reflecting an investment in both the physical development and well-being of its student bodyโโ.
Further emphasizing the school's dedication to athletics and physical education, it's noteworthy that George DeKlotz Stadium, the school's new football stadium and track, was finished in 2005, along with renovations to the baseball field and the completion of a new softball field around the same period. These facilities complement the school's comprehensive athletic program, which also includes a swimming pool, gym, small gym, locker rooms, and a weight room, ensuring a well-rounded physical education and sports experience for all students
