He will be joined by Pat Giffin and Lester Ransom, each bringing unique comedic styles influenced by their diverse backgrounds and experiences. East Bay Officials Urge Caution as Rattlesnake Encounters Rise

With the arrival of sunny spring weather, East Bay Regional Park District has issued a rattlesnake advisory due to increased sightings on trails. As temperatures rise, rattlesnakes, native to California, are becoming more active following their winter hibernation. These reptiles frequent various habitats including both rural and urban areas.

The Park District highlights the ecological role of snakes, particularly their effectiveness in controlling rodent and other reptile populations. Visitors are encouraged to admire snakes from a distance and to adhere to regulations prohibiting the collection, harm, or removal of any wildlife.

To minimize the risk of rattlesnake encounters, the district advises hiking in groups, staying vigilant on the trail, sticking to clear paths, and keeping dogs leashed. It is crucial to be alert for the distinctive rattle sound that warns of a rattlesnake’s presence. If a rattlesnake is spotted, it is safest to leave it undisturbed and move away slowly, respecting its space.

In the event of a snake bite, the district stresses the importance of remaining calm and seeking immediate medical help. It is advised to keep the bitten limb below heart level and to avoid outdated and potentially harmful first aid measures. Quick access to medical care is vital, especially in the absence of companions.

Understanding the nature of the bite can be crucial, particularly distinguishing the intense, burning pain of a rattlesnake bite from other types of snake bites, which might show multiple teeth marks without such pain. Regardless of the snake species, medical treatment should be sought for any bite.

OTHER IMPORANTANT NEWS

California Bans Restaurant Junk Fees, Enforcing Price Transparency from July 2024

California is set to enforce a new legislation, SB-478, by July 2024, which will eliminate the practice of adding service fees or surcharges to restaurant bills. Drafted by Senators Nancy Skinner and Bill Dodd and backed by State Attorney General Rob Bonta, this law will require all additional costs to be clearly included in menu prices. The intent behind this legislative move is to promote pricing transparency and fairness by banning so-called "junk fees" that often conceal the actual cost of dining out. Attorney General Bonta highlighted the negative impact of these deceptive fees on consumers, especially those trying to maintain their budgets, and on businesses that opt for honest pricing. With this regulation, California asserts itself as a pioneering state in the eradication of hidden charges, ensuring consumers pay only the price that is publicly posted.
